High school transcript placement in developmental mathematics courses: A case study at one college

Historically, college students who require remediation in mathematics have been placed into developmental courses. Accurate placement is important for student success; inaccurate a low-level course could lengthen students’ time to degree completion. Placement policies tended focus on high-stakes test, but more holistic approaches recommended. This study investigated success outcomes with approach of evaluating high school transcripts. Students were one three by their transcript at suburban community North-eastern United States selected this study. A non-experimental, retrospective research was conducted. Archival data took from fall 2015 through spring 2019 and had file chosen Findings chi-square analyses indicated that transcripts consider grades are viable option math courses, particularly the two lower-levels. However, lower than desired rates suggest only first step increasing achievement. lack suggests some would prefer take upper-level algebra path. challenge advisors will be creating an equitable policy do not recent transcript.
