High school transcript placement in developmental mathematics courses: A case study at one college

Historically, college students who require remediation in mathematics have been placed into developmental courses. Accurate placement is important for student success; inaccurate a low-level course could lengthen students’ time to degree completion. Placement policies tended focus on high-stakes test, but more holistic approaches recommended. This study investigated success outcomes with approach of evaluating high school transcripts. Archival data took from fall 2015 through spring 2019 and had file chosen Findings chi-square analyses indicated that transcripts consider grades are viable option math courses, particularly the two lower-levels.
